Our Story

We first met in 2018. Although we both attended Trine University, we never crossed paths until Laura’s brother helped her secure a job which led to our eventual meeting. After dating for a year, we realized that we shared the same vision for our future – living a simple life, working hard on the land, and cherishing all that God’s country has to offer.

Nick spent his childhood working alongside his Grandpa on the farm in Russiaville, IN. He enjoyed every aspect of farming, from raising pigs to planting fields, and knew from an early age that he wanted to pursue it as a career. After graduating from Taylor High School in Kokomo, he decided to attend Trine University to pursue a degree in Chemical Engineering. While still in college, he was given an opportunity to work at Carver Non-Woven in Fremont, IN, which he accepted. Upon graduation, Nick continued working at Carver, where he eventually met Laura. He stayed there until 2019, when he received an offer to work closer to home. Nick finally had the chance to pursue his dream of growing the farm.

Laura grew up in Fremont, Indiana. She was a busy student who loved spending time with friends and being outdoors. Her family was incredibly important to her, especially her grandparents who taught her the value of finding happiness in simplicity. After graduating from Fremont High School, she attended Trine University to study Elementary Education. Following graduation, she was unsure of her career path but knew she wanted to buy a house. To make that dream a reality, she began working at Carver Non-Woven. In 2019, she had the opportunity to move closer to Nick’s family farm, and she jumped at the chance for a simpler life.

A few years have passed and now we are living in a small home a few miles away from the farm. We live with two playful dogs named Bailey and Millie, and Laura’s mom Kaye. Our current goal is to homestead until we can move to the farm. We grow a garden every year and have our animals down the road. Currently, we have 20 hens, 1 rooster named Jeff, and 6 goats named Boots, Baby, Bonnie, Clyde, Rufus, and Tippy. Our life is full of excitement. You never know what is going to happen. One consistent thing is that we enjoy making everything from scratch and caring for our animals. We make homemade yogurt weekly, our own whipping cream and butter, sourdough bread and more! We will soon have a cow on the farm. Raising animals in a loving and safe envirnoment means a lot to us. We are thankful for the food they provide. We live this way for a simpler life with less worry about what’s in our food, less stress about affording groceries, and more freedom in what we can eat. Our goal is to never have to go to the grocery store. We know that it’s hard work and messy, and that there will be things we won’t be able to grow or raise ourselves. But, we’re okay without them. We’re excited to share our journey of simplifying our lives and growing our farm with you. Thank you for joining us!
